Vehicle Description

This amazing Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9l was ordered new in 1990 by Bernard Arnault, the LVMH President and world leader of luxury market. He wanted a car he could drive anonymously everyday without chauffeur and instructed the specialized company Labbé to custom build for him an armou red car.

The 205 was completely dismantled to comply with a level 2 armoring. The car’s structure received thick sheet metal panels and windows, the suspension and brakes were also reinforced. The interior was finished in full leather and it received both air-conditioning and power steering. These combined options being not available from Peugeot on a same car. It should be noted that the quality of building is absolutely amazing and very few would notice this is a modified vehicle.

Mr Arnault used his lovely 205 GTI as a daily driver for some years before it was put into storage in his collection, he only sold it in 2009 to a collector. It was recently serviced and works perfectly, the driving is excellent despite its weight, nearing 1400kg. The original milage is 14700km and the car’s condition could only be described as being immaculate.

It is still registered at Mr Arnault’s name and this is a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most amazing versions , of the mythical Peugeot 205 GTI.

Imagine the street cred of something so rare, even amongst the rare 205 movement.

I think the same thing when I hear Americans shouting, ‘ I need ma guns to pro-tect ma family’. Lol.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Bernard Arnault is Chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group.

Born to an industrial family in Roubaix, France on March 5, 1949, Mr. Arnault attended the Roubaix lycée and the Faidherbe lycée in Lille. He then went on to study at the Ecole Polytechnique.

He began his professional career that year as an engineer with the Ferret-Savinel construction company and successively was promoted to various executive management positions before becoming Chairman in 1978.

Mr. Arnault remained there until 1984, when he undertook the reorganization of the Financière Agache holding company. He returned the group to profitability as he embarked upon a strategy of developing the world’s leading luxury products company. In the process, he reinvigorated Christian Dior as the cornerstone of the new organization.

In 1989, Mr. Arnault became the majority shareholder of LVMH Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton, creating the world’s leading luxury products group. Mr. Arnault has been Chairman and CEO of the company since that date.

Mr. Arnault is also President of the Board of Directors of Groupe Arnault S.E. (his family holding company).

Mr. Arnault is married and has five children.

He has been awarded the honorary titles of Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur and Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres.

In France in the 80s, being a very wealthy person was more a kidnap and extortion risk.

TIL. So basically the same reasons as armouring and installing flamethrowers in cars in Mexico and South Africa.

Spot on.

This wouldn’t probably be an adequate level of protection if someone really wanted him dead.

There was a time it wasn’t all that safe in some areas of France and Italy if you were a very wealthy, influential or powerful person.

That’s the idea of the vehicle, try and duck below the radar a little.

A chauffeur driven large saloon car would be too o bvious.

If someone really , ‘wanted you’, there is no true level of protection. He merely wanted to live a more normal life.

Even Prince Philip was driven in (and apparently drove himself) a Metrocab London taxi around London to be more inconspicuous.

For example, Georges Besse – at the time CEO of Régie Renault, n o l e s s – was killed by the Action Directe terrorist group in 1986.
